The Corruption Has No End – Or Complete Power Corrupts Completely

I cannot let the Abramoff plea deal go by without some comment so here goes. Jack Abramoff is a scumbag to the 5th power. We all knew that already, right. Well he’s such a scumbag in my book that I won’t let my spell check dictionary learn his name. The problem is that Abramoff has a plethora of lobbyist/politician brothers and sisters in Washington D.C. and elsewhere and I really want to see them all do the perp walk and soon. I hope to see Tom Delay with Karl Rove walking beside him leading the crowd. I understand that Karl kept enough distance to have plausible deniability but one can only hope that Mr. Fitzgerald continues to do his job with due diligence and Mr. Rove and Mr. Delay and Mr. Abramoff can play three way checkers and whose holding the chicken together in a not so fun federal camp for perverts. They might even bring in Scooter and make it a foursome. Oh am I in a bad name calling mood. Well I rarely do that and in this case I’m going to excuse myself because these are really, really bad guys who deserve it and they will hopefully be locked up soon.

I want to discuss this issue a little and expound on why I feel so strongly about it. Our political system has had corruption from its inception but I, and many others, have noted that a level of graft and corruption has been reached that has never before been achieved or even imagined. This has become so flagrant and obvious that finally even MSM has noticed and I think might even start digging for more corruption (there is more believe me) and actually report on it with some level of integrity and honesty. That would shock us all I’m sure. I digress. Let me stay on task here.

What makes this rampant corruption so much worse for the American people is that this is just one side of the iron vice that we are in. The other side is the actions of the Bush administration and their not so slow purposeful erosion of our civil liberties and corresponding increases in the president’s power. I think it is imperative and I hope and pray that the American people realize soon that the actions of this president are unprecedented in American history. Say what they may about past president’s use of power and the erosion of civil liberties but never in our history have we had a president who is so aggressive in attacking those liberties. One small example, and it’s really not so small, is the presidents use of “signing statements”. Specifically the most flagrant recent use was with regards to the McCain anti-torture law. There is an excellent article on that little issue here: http://www.boston.com/news/nation/washington/articles
/2006/01/04/bush_could_bypass_new_torture_ban/

This president knows no bounds in being disingenuous or deceitful. After a public appearance with Senator McCain and nice, nice talk signing the bill, just hours later, he signs this “signing statement” that basically means I’m going to do what the hell I want to do law be damned. And someone would trust this man why? It has been my observations, and that’s what this blog is about, that this president and his entire administration are concerned only with power and money. Nothing else! Really, not anything else seems to mean much to him or at least I haven’t seen anything in his actions to indicate otherwise. I’m going to end this post here. I think this issue speaks for itself from this point.

Those Are The Sergeant Majors Thoughts On That.

Gee I didn't know that. By linked cash I trust you mean that Mr. Abramoff suggested that certain tribes or nations contribute to certain representatives. That is true in some cases however many tribes contribute, on a normal and ongoing basis, to representatives on their own accord because those representative (Republican, Democrat and Independent) have historically supported legislation that aided them as in the correct and normal course of business. Democrats in general some Republicans and Independents also have historically supported Native American groups. Over half of those on your list by the way fit into that category. I do not believe my post names anyone who has not been implicitly implicated in the Abramoff case. I am certain there are more to come and perhaps even Democrats and Independents. You will also notice that many and, I didn't count, perhaps most of your list includes representative that have large Native American populations which might give you a hint about why they might support them on a normal and ongoing basis also. (ND, SD, NM, AZ, WA, CA, MT, NV, FL, etc. etc. etc.) Hope your comment wasn't being defensive.

My comment wasn't being defensive. It was just pointing out that both sides are corrupt.

So basically what you're saying is that the tribes aren't permitted to give donations to their elected representatives, yes?

Many of those representatives received tribal donations well before Abramoff. Indeed, they received less, rather than more donations after Abramoff began stealing from the tribes.

I'm not sure I understand your comment but I believe it is quite in order and legal that Native Americans, tribes, and Nations donate to the campaigns of persons running for public office that they believe will support their initiatives provided those initiatives are legal. That's what our constitution in my mind is all about. It guarantees a citizens right to petition Congress. A good example would be congressman Patrick Kennedy whose campaign not only took money from Native American Tribes but who is extremely active in initiatives in support of Native Americans. I do not know if any one politician received more or less money before of after Abramoff. What I am saying is that taking political contributions from Native Americans is not in and of itself illegal. Taking money, gifts, or favors from anyone in exchange for official action in your capacity as a public servant or elected official is illegal. Mr. Abramoff and his political hacks will, I am sure, be found guilty of these types of crimes. We shall see. Please understand that I personally want anyone, Democrat, Independent, Republican, Libertarian or whatever who is guilty of crimes to be tried, convicted, and imprisoned. Simple as that.

Sgt. Maj.,

No worries. I was responding to the other poster.

You, sir, are spot on with your analysis.
